Crowe Clark Whitehill expects to see less of managing partner

JOHNATHAN Dudley, head of the Midlands office of audit, tax and advisory firm Crowe Clark Whitehill, is undertaking a sponsored slim in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. He has pledged to lose two stone.

“I am determined to hit my target despite all the temptations around the festive season – office parties, mince pies and the rest,” said Mr Dudley.

“Christmas is excluded when I may just indulge myself a little, but otherwise I will be watching the calories.

“It is for a great cause and I intend to raise as much as I can – all contributions will be gratefully received.”

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to supporting the seven young people (aged 13-24) diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK.

Michelle Aucott, Teenage Cancer Trust Regional Fundraiser said: “We know that young people need expert treatment and support from the moment they hear the word ‘cancer’. We are the only charity dedicated to making this happen.

“We build specialists units in NHS hospitals that bring young people together so they can be treated together, by teenage cancer experts, in the best place for them.”

There are 27 special units around the country including three in Birmingham.

Morris Property kicks off scholarship fundraising

MORRIS Property has given its backing to the Alex Wilson Scholarship and Memorial Football Match which is set up to enable a student from the Shropshire community to enter sixth form education at Shrewsbury School.

It is a 100% scholarship and a substantial amount of fundraising has taken place over the last four years to enable the offer to take place.

The football game provides the back drop to the Alex Wilson Scholarship, and was founded by Henry Wilson in memory of his brother Alex Wilson, a former Shrewsbury School pupil, who passed away in 2009.

The match gives an opportunity for all of Alex’s friends and family to come together to share memories and enjoy each others’ company. The sponsorship money from Morris equipped the Alex Wilson Memorial XI with shirts for the annual fixture, which is against the Old Salopian XI.

Saxonby builds on sports sponsorship

Established in 1996, the club comprises 10 teams from U13 to U18 boys, men’s elite, women’s and the Warriors Wheelchair. The U15s compete in West Midlands’ league and play every week between October and February.

Saxonby, a keen advocate of sport sponsorship, currently supports The Shrewsbury & District Evening Cricket League, but director Andrew Copson said basketball was something different for the company.

He said: “When this opportunity arose, we jumped at the chance. No pun intended! The Shropshire Warriors has a number of teams, encouraging young people, men and women as well as those with disabilities to get involved, which Saxonby wholeheartedly endorses. We wish them the best of luck for the remainder of the season.”

Russell Hales, of Shropshire Warriors U15s, said: “We are pleased to be associated with Saxonby. Although exciting and inclusive, basketball in the UK still has a way to go to achieve, for example, the recognition and mainstream popularity it does in the USA, so all support, whether financial or promotional, or both, is very helpful.”
