Job title: Business Development Director

Describe yourself in a Tweet: What’s a Tweet?…perhaps I’m a luddite?!

Career highlights: I’ve enjoyed most of my 30 years in banking but spending nine months as a regional manager in Atlanta was definitely a highlight.

What’s on your iPod? I don’t have an iPod but my favourite CD in the car at the moment has to be the Very Best of the Electric Light Orchestra.

What has been your favourite/worst job? When I started out, I worked as a cashier but I could never get the numbers to balance. I’m better suited to my current role in business development than banking!

Who is your ideal dinner guest or which public figure do you admire most and why? I’d like to get some golf tips from Tiger Woods.  He’s probably got some interesting stories to tell too!

Are you worth what you’re paid? Why? My wife thinks I’m not paid enough, but she’s in a minority of one!

What is your pet peeve both in and out of work? Queues – whether on the road or in a shop.

Who has had the biggest influence on your career? My wife. She’s kept me grounded.

What do you enjoy most and least about your role? I enjoy meeting lots of interesting people and getting to understand their businesses. I don’t like the fact that I spend a fair amount of time sitting in traffic on the M6.

What’s the key to working successfully as a team? Understanding your role within the team and trusting others to play their part too.

What are the biggest barriers to your organisation’s success? There is still a perception in some areas that banks aren’t lending. I can only speak for Lloyds Banking Group, but we’re certainly open for business and have committed over £500m to support local businesses in the West Midlands this year.

What would make the West Midlands an even better place to live and work? An extra lane on the M5 and M6.

If you weren’t doing what you’re doing now, what alternative career would you choose and why? As a teenager I turned down a career in football to pursue one in banking, so I like to think I’d be a professional sportsman.
