IAB president to step down after four years

DR ARUN Bajaj is to retire from his position as president of the Birmingham-based Institute of Asian Businesses.

He will formally announce his decision at the institute’s annual dinner and awards on February 19 after spending almost four years in the role, originally titled chairman.

Dr Bajaj will be succeeded on an interim basis by Shantose Kaur, one of the IAB’s vice-presidents.

IAB operations manager Dipak Shelat said: “Dr Bajaj has provided sterling service to the IAB during his more than 10-year membership of the committee and he will be a hard act to follow.”

Dr Bajaj added: “Since I became chairman, the IAB has grown into one of the most influential Asian business support groups not only in the Midlands but nationwide.

“It will be a wrench to leave it but it is time to make way for new people and I also need more time to further develop my business interests.”

As well as promoting Asian business nationally, the IAB works with Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Group to help trade links between companies in the Birmingham area and India and Pakistan.

Dr Bajaj founded one the largest Asian commercial radio stations outside London, Radio XL.

He is also a board member of the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce Group, deputy lieutenant of the West Midlands County and previously worked as an oral and maxillo-facial surgeon.
