Software firm expands with new Coventry operation

A SOFTWARE company has expanded its UK operations with a new base in Coventry.
Metaswitch, which has offices in London, Edinburgh and Chester, along with three in America, is now running a centre at the University of Warwick Science Park’s Business Innovation Centre, in Binley.
Headquartered in Enfield, Metaswitch provides carrier systems and software to customers such as AT&T, BT, Cisco, Ericsson and Microsoft.
It has taken 1,679 sq ft for an undisclosed rent and length of lease, with 14 new staff joining the firm from Ericsson and reporting to office manager Mike Walmsley.
John Palombo, senior vice-president of international development at Metaswitch Networks, said: “When Ericsson announced its withdrawal of R&D from Ansty Park, Metaswitch saw the opportunity to recruit an experienced team to further its international expansion ambitions.
“As a company we already manufacture and develop telecommunications equipment for international markets and this new office helps us to accelerate those plans.
“We looked around, but the Binley Innovation Centre was the only one that seemed to offer everything we needed.
“We were keen on being close to the University of Warwick as we regularly recruit from there. We see our move to Binley helping us access a pool of undergraduate talent for intern roles and graduates for permanent positions.”
Metaswitch was founded in 1981 and employs around 600 people worldwide.
Penny Robb, centre manager at the University of Warwick’s Business Innovation Centre, said: “The fact that a company of such a size and reputation has chosen the Business Innovation Centre is great news and a testament to us and the work we do here.”
