Molls moves upwards with expansion

A FAMILY-run meat supply and distribution company is expanding its south Birmingham operation and recruiting new staff.

Molls Meats (Birmingham), which trades as Molls Bacon, was founded in 1970 as a traditional catering butchers and after 14 years branched out into the bacon slicing business.

The firm is based on the Formans Trading Estate, in Sparkhill, where it has just bought another freehold unit with the backing of NatWest.

Molls has also bought a new bacon slicing machine with the support of Lombard, meaning the payroll will climb from 50 to 59 staff.

The purchase of the new unit will double the square footage of the business and enable it to store more stock and buy in bulk, saving them time and reducing costs.

Peter Tooke, senior relationship manager for NatWest commercial banking in Solihull, and Phil Owen from Lombard, put the financial package together.

Mr Tooke said: “In these challenging economic times, it really is great news to see a local business not only thriving, but also growing and creating jobs.”
