Kier relocates to Blythe Valley Park to support growth

CONSTRUCTION and development services group Kier has announced it is to relocate its Midlands headquarters to Blythe Valley Business Park in Solihull.

The company, formerly based at Maypole in Birmingham, is making the switch to the Tungsten building because it needs larger premises in order to facilitate growth.

The deal was led by property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton, which acquired the building on behalf of Kier.

Alastair McChesney, director in LSH’s Birmingham-based office agency team said: “Blythe Valley offers excellent Grade A office space which will provide superb accommodation close to the M42 for the Kier teams.”

The facilities on the park include a gym and nursery as well as on-site park management and 24-hour security. The business park is jointly owned by Liberty Property Trust and Doughty Hanson Real Estate.

The new building has been purchased by Kier’s commercial property arm, Kier Property, for occupation by Kier Moss and the group’s social housing division, Kier Partnership Homes.

The fully-glazed building provides more than 23,000 sq ft of prime office space on two floors and a 500 sq ft double height atrium.

Gary Pearce, Kier Moss director who heads up the company’s Birmingham office, said: “With our increasing presence in Birmingham and the West Midlands, we had outgrown our existing premises.

“Tungsten will provide staff with a modern and flexible working environment that has excellent communications across the West Midlands and easy access to anywhere in the country.”

Sister company Kier Partnership Homes will occupy the first floor and he said having the additional space meant clients would have better access to the group.

“Buying our own office at Blythe Valley Park presents an ideal base from which to develop our business in Birmingham and the West Midlands, demonstrating our commitment to the region,” he added.

Paul Rubincam, director at Liberty Property Trust UK, which develops and manages Blythe Valley Park in partnership with Doughty Hanson & Co Real Estate, said: “Tungsten is a terrific building in terms of efficiency and image and perfect for a company such as the Kier Group, which is looking to grow its operations in the region.

“It is always pleasing when a company that specialises in construction and development chooses the park as it confirms the quality of what we have to offer.”

Blythe Valley Park covers an area of 257 acres, including a dedicated countryside park, and is home to companies and organisations such as Arup, Oracle, British Gas, Caterpillar Finance, Balfour Beatty and Virgin Active.
