High demand drives £80m investment programme for independent living developer

Independent living developer, Adlington, has said strong demand is behind a decision to commit to £80m of new projects this year – including an £11m scheme in Stafford.

The Congleton-based group, which develops retirement homes and luxury apartments designed specifically for the over 60s, said the investment programme would results in seven new sites opening in 2017, creating a total of 385 new homes across the North West and Staffordshire.

The new sites are expected to generate 175 jobs directly, as well as more across the supply and construction sectors.

In Staffordshire, the company has begun development on the £11m Brooklands House development, in Eccleshall Road.
The development will consist of 55 one, two and three bedroom apartments, along with communal spaces, exclusively for the over 65s.

The facility will offer independent living with 24-hour on-site care plus a table-service restaurant, a spa, hairdressing salon, communal lounge and an activities and craft room.

Marketing of the apartments is already underway.

Also under construction is Adlington House in Urmston, with projects in Macclesfield, Cheadle, Southport, Ramsbottom and Romiley set to follow.

The company said its plans would help address concerns raised in the recent Housing White Paper regarding accommodation for the older generation.

To support expansion, the group has made two high level appointments.

Joining from a director’s position at Caulmert, Allan Smith has been appointed as Structural Engineer and brings several years of experience in construction consultancy, as well as broad knowledge of the building industry.

Jonothan Croft also joins the team as Senior Land Manager, bringing over 20 years of experience within the retirement development and housebuilding industries.

Both men have predominately worked in the North West during their careers.

Claire Reede, sales and marketing manager at Adlington, said: “We’ve seen demand for retirement homes expand very quickly recently and the new sites we are opening will provide over 60s with the choice to move to a luxury community with excellent facilities on their doorstep.

“We’re also delighted to welcome Allan Smith and Jonothan Croft into the fold. Both bring extensive knowledge and experience within the retirement development and construction sectors and we expect to see a real impact on the business as we continue to grow this year.”
