Children’s cancer charity wins Love Brum funding

Love Brum has awarded £2,000 to The Society of Parents of Children with Cancer (SPoCC), which was founded by members of the medical team at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

SPoCC started when staff at the hospital approached a small group of parents – some who had a child with cancer, others who had lost a child because of it.  They joined together to support each other and to help families of newly diagnosed children.

The charity provides fun for affected children and their families, organising regular outings such as Legoland and Drayton Manor, and a visit to the pantomime at Christmas.

It also organises short caravan trips and summer breaks to the seaside.

The funding from LoveBrum will be used to pay for tickets and a coach for an outing.

LoveBrum selects three good causes each month and asks its members to vote for one of the organisations.

The other finalists for the funding included the Buddy Bag Foundation, which provides back packs of essentials to children when arriving at refuge centres following domestic abuse, and Cruse Bereavement Care in Birmingham, which supports children suffering from the loss of a loved one.
