Planning Briefs: Gusto; Knights House; Battery Park

Gusto

Restaurant group Gusto has applied for planning permission to install signage at its latest venture in the West Midlands.

Following the successful launch of its restaurant in Colmore Row, Birmingham – in part of the refurbished Grand Hotel scheme – the company has committed to plans for a second outlet in the city, at Mulberry Walk, Mere Green Road, Sutton Coldfield.

The new venture should be up and running before Christmas.

The group has now applied for permission to install the signage outside the venue, including its burnished gold logo. The application submitted to Birmingham City Council also includes freestanding menu boxes and awning over an exterior seating area.

The restaurant is currently recruiting the staff it needs for the new outlet.

However, the restaurant is not the only new eatery planned for the town.

Alongside Gusto’s submission, Knights Developments Ltd, has applied for permission to install a new restaurant in the ground floor of Knights House, the 1970s office block which has recently been granted planning consent for conversion to apartments.

The latest proposal is to alter and extend the ground floor of the former office building to create two additional apartments and the new restaurant, which would be created by glass curtain walling.

Developers have submitted plans for a new convenience store on the former Birmingham Battery site in Selly Oak.

The application, submitted by Harvest 2 Selly Oak Ltd, is a standalone submission for a retail facility totalling 1,396 sq ft.

The unit is located in the supermarket-led phase of the wider development site and would occupy a central position within the eastern arm of a retail terrace building.

The retail terrace defines the northern side of the site and forms an enclosure to the external car park and landscaped area. The east side is enclosed by a supermarket and student housing block, with the Birmingham and Worcester canal running alongside.
