Retail park owner brews up new scheme to expand facilities

The proposed location of the new Costa drive-through

The new owners of a Birmingham retail park have applied for planning permission to install a drive-through Costa Coffee facility on the site.

Harbour Holdings acquired Castle Vale Retail Park from previous owner M&G Real Estate last year and is looking to upgrade facilities at the shopping area.

The application proposes a ‘pod’ style unit within the car park area. The scale of the unit has been revised so that the loss of parking spaces is kept to a minimum.

The current proposal would see a unit of 1,800 sq ft, resulting in the loss of 51 spaces on the car park. Nevertheless, this would still leave more than 600 spaces available on the site.

The facility would be open between 5.30am and 11pm Monday to Sunday. When fully operational, the coffee shop could create 20 new jobs.

A supporting statement from CBRE suggests the new unit would be a benefit to the area as the only other coffee shop serving the site is within the anchor supermarket, Sainsbury’s.
