Jaguar Land Rover to launch electric versions of all its models

Jaguar I-Pace

Jaguar Land Rover is set to offer customers the option of buying an electric version of every model in its range by 2020.

The company is expected to use the latest Cenex Low Carbon Vehicles event to make the announcement later today.

The move follows a similar promise made by Volvo earlier in the year.

With the Government announcing in the summer that sales of traditional petrol and diesel engines will be prohibited by 2040, manufacturers are facing major challenges to ‘green-up’ their operations.

In truth, JLR is ahead of the curve and has been working on electric and hybrid vehicle options for some time.

Part of the reason for the £1bn investment into its Wolverhampton engine plant is so that a third production line can be introduced manufacturing hybrid power plants for its next generation vehicles.

It is also one of the driving forces behind calls for a National Battery Prototype Centre to be opened in the West Midlands.

The carmaker is set to launch its first all-electric model – the I-Pace – next year after debuting the car last year.
