Region is home to cheapest pint of good beer

The cheapest cost of a good pint of beer in the UK can be found in Herefordshire.

The Good Pub Guide has analysed prices from more than 850 pubs which feature in its 2018 guide.

It found the cost of a pint in Herefordshire, along with Yorkshire, averaged at £3.31, with drinkers in Shropshire and Worcestershire also getting change from £3.40.

The most expensive pints were in Surrey, where the average cost is £4.40 – even more expensive than London, at £4.20.

Fiona Stapley, editor of the Good Pub Guide, remained upbeat despite the pressures the sector continues to face, with rising costs, competition from the off-trade, and social changes affecting pubs.

She said: “It’s a really tough time for pubs, brewers and customers at the moment, but despite this pubs will survive. There are thousands of really well-run pubs that will be around for years and years.”
