Traffic Alert: Busy route set to be closed all day following serious collision

Highways England reports the scene has been cleared quicker than expected and all diversions have been lifted.

The road has reopened and traffic is said to be running smoothly.

The A5 in Staffordshire is closed in both directions between the junctions with the A5148 and the A38, near Lichfield following a serious collision between two cars.

The route is expected to remain closed at least until after this evening’s rush-hour.

Highways England has said diversions are in place but motorists have been advised to avoid the area if possible in order to minimise delays.

Diversion routes

Northbound: Follow signs with the solid circle symbol.

At the roundabout with the A38 take the 5th exit to join the A38 northbound. At the next roundabout take the 1st exit to join the A5148 southbound. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit to re-join the A5 northbound.

Southbound: Follow signs with the solid triangle symbol.

At the roundabout with the A5148 take the 2nd exit to join the A5148 northbound. Continue along the A5148 and at the next roundabout take the 3rd exit to join the A38 southbound. Continue along the A38 and at the next roundabout take the 1st exit to re-join the A5 southbound.
