Evoque named Car of the Year ahead of sales launch

ONE month ahead of going on-sale the new Range Rover Evoque has been named Car of the Year in a leading automotive awards.
The Halewood-manufactured vehicle has also been named Best Compact SUV in the Auto Express New Car Awards.
Competition judges hailed the new model for its mould-breaking styling and driving dynamics as well as for its pricing.
Land Rover said to receive such an accolade ahead of the Evoque going on sale was a major boost for the company.
Colin Green, Land Rover UK Managing Director, said: “The first production Evoque was driven off the line at Land Rover’s Halewood manufacturing plant in Liverpool only last month.
“To receive an accolade such as this so soon is a huge boost for the talented and dedicated professionals who have worked so hard and so long to bring the Evoque to market.”
In a double boost for the company, the Land Rover Discovery 4 was also named as Best Large SUV.
“The Discovery trophy cabinet is already huge, and this second successive Auto Express award for the latest incarnation of the model underlines its superiority in a highly competitive market segment,” added Mr Green.
However, there was disappointment for stablemate Jaguar as it missed out in the Compact Executive, Executive and Luxury categories to German rivals, BMW, Audi and Mercedes.
