Man killed after wall collapse in Jewellery Quarter

A man has died after a wall collapsed in a Jewellery Quarter building which is being converted into apartments.

West Midlands Ambulance Service this morning said that a man was confirmed dead at the scene yesterday evening.

A second man was taken to Sandwell Hospital.

The site affected is understood to be The Unity Works, a grade II-listed building in Vittoria Street. It was built in 1866 and later became a munitions factory that supplied European and US troops during the First World War.

The incident happened at around 6pm last night with fire, police and ambulance services all attending.
