Suited for Success gets Royal approval

Suited for Success, a Birmingham-based charity which helps unemployed people back into work, has received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.

The scheme began as a six-month pilot project launched in May 2015 by a group of young professionals from firms in Birmingham city centre, working with a large city centre foodbank.

Suits and smart workwear are donated by professionals, which are then given to unemployed people who have a confirmed job interview.

Suited for Success also provides help with interview preparation skills as part of their aim of giving the best impression to their potential employer.

The Ladywood-based organisation works with a variety of frontline support agencies that refer unemployed men and women of all ages and backgrounds.

Minister for Civil Society and Sport Mims Davies said: “Volunteers make an incredible difference to so many people’s lives and their communities.

“These prestigious awards recognise the wonderful work being done by many voluntary organisations across the country.”

The awards are announced each year on June 2, the anniversary of the Queen’s Coronation. 281 organisations from across the UK were recognised in the 2019 list.
