National air brake supplier picks Wolverhampton for regional base

A national air brake supplier looking to grow in the Midlands has moved its regional base to Wolverhampton.

EXB (UK) has moved its depot from Electric Avenue in Birmingham to the 1,637 sq ft Unit 24 on the Wulfrun Trading Estate off Stafford Road.

Roger Gibbons, EXB (UK) branch manager, said: “There’s just the two of us at the moment but we aim to take on more people as we secure more clients.”

The company is the UK’s biggest independent specialist wholesaler of air brake components for lorries, trailers, coaches and buses.

With its headquarters in Bristol and three satellite depots – at Wolverhampton, Warrington and Stockton-on-Tees – EXB (UK) supplies clients such as motor factors and main dealerships for DAF, Scania and Iveco.

“The West Midlands is an ideal target market for us – it is the UK’s centre for logistics,” said Gibbons. “We have hundreds of items in stock and can source many more – our headquarters in Bristol stocks thousands.

“We cover the Birmingham area, but our previous premises were close to Junction 6 of the M6 and the weight of traffic could make us difficult to get to.

“Our premises in Wolverhampton are about the same size, but we are much more accessible while still having easy access to the motorway network. It’s ideal.”

Edward Jenkinson, assistant surveyor at Bulleys, who handled the letting on behalf of the Wulfrun Trading Estate’s owners, said: “This proves the success of smaller units in Black Country.

“They are extremely popular with a wide range of businesses, providing quality accommodation combined with easy access and reasonable terms – particularly compared with units in more congested parts of the region.

“There is just one unit left available on the Wulfrun Trading Estate now and we do not expect it to be sitting empty very long.”
