Bet365 boss UK’s best paid executive with £320m payday

Denise Coates, the boss of Stoke gambling firm Bet365, has received a £320m payday.

Coates, the UK’s best paid executive, took home a basic salary of almost £277m in the year ended March 2019, rising from £220m on the previous period.

According to accounts filed at Companies House, on top of this, she collected dividend payments of £45m from her more-than 50% shareholding in the company.

The privately held company is owned jointly by Coates, who was responsible for taking the bookmaker online, and members of her direct family, including her brother John, who is joint chief executive, and her father Peter, the firm’s chairman.

Bet365 made a profit before tax of £791m in the year, compared with £661m the year before.

The group of firms owns Stoke City Football Club, which made a loss of £8.7m in the period.
