Alton Towers closes water park after guests taken ill

The water park was closed at 1pm yesterday

Alton Towers has shut its water park after 33 adults and six children were taken ill yesterday (2 February).

Emergency services were called to the Staffordshire theme park after the group reported eye and throat problems.

Alton Towers’ amusement park is shut for the winter break and is due to open at the end of March. The water park has been open for the winter, but bosses shut the facility at 1pm yesterday.

An Alton Towers spokesperson said: “At around 1 o’clock today we took the decision to close the Waterpark after a small number of people reported irritation of the eyes and throat.

“We are working with West Midlands Ambulance Service and Staffordshire Fire Brigade to investigate.

All affected guests are being offered medical treatment, and their tickets will be refunded or revalidated.”
