Over 200 jobs planned at new Jewellery Quarter scheme

How the courtyard of the new development could look

Plans for new mixed-use scheme in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter have been submitted to the City Council in a move that could create over 200 jobs.

The development would include a three- and four-storey group of buildings for retail, office, restaurant, a health centre and residential space on a site currently occupied by a two-storey office and warehouse on the corner of Northwood Street and Mary Street.

The site is currently owned by a company called Digital Emartbuy, whose premises would be demolished as part of the redevelopment. Documents accompanying the planning application say as many as 20 businesses could occupy the new scheme.

A planning statement states: “The proposed development replaces buildings detrimental to the Conservation Area with a high quality development that will enhance the area, increase the
quantity and type of commercial accommodation on site, offer new employment opportunities and provide new residential dwellings in a sustainable location.”
