Chinese supermarket to open after property deal

A Chinese supermarket is set to open in the heart of Birmingham’s student village following a deal secured by Centrick Commercial.

The unit on Selly Oak high street will be the latest home for Taste Chinese Supermarket, secured with rent in excess of the £80,000 a year guide price.

The 3,850 sq ft site, situated at the junction of Bristol Road South and Harrow Road in Selly Oak, has been let to business owner Jiang Young Feng.

Having already established a number of similar developments in Leeds, this will be Feng’s first investment in Birmingham.

Alongside the Taste Chinese Supermarket, the ground-floor of the development will also feature a café, with 70 studio apartments above.

George Xydias, Centrick commercial director, said: “This popular and vibrant area of Selly Oak is well established as the centre of the city’s student population, many who have travelled from all over the world to study at Birmingham University.

“Unsurprisingly, there was a lot of interest for this site; not only does it benefit from an impressive commercial space fronting Bristol Road South but it also comes with student accommodation already fitted-out with the highest quality finish. It will be yet another feather in the cap for the region and a great success story for the city.”

Taste Chinese Supermarket is expected to open its doors in December.
