Work starts on £5.1m specialist children’s care home

Work to deliver a purpose-built residential care home for children has now started on site in Nuneaton, including four stand-alone residential care homes and associated facilities.

The £5.1m build, named The Forge, has been designed to cater for up to 20 children who are experiencing emotional and behavioural disorders or recovering from early childhood trauma.

Located off Plough Hill Road, the therapeutic facility is being developed by Nuneaton-based children’s home provider Forge Care, with Rugby-based construction partner Stepnell as the main contractor and Coventry-based architects IDP.

Once complete, the scheme will provide more than 80 jobs on site.

Adrian Barnes, regional director at Stepnell, said: “We’re delighted to be starting on site at The Forge and we are incredibly proud to be involved in a project that will have such a big impact on the local community, particularly vulnerable children looking for a safe and secure place to call home. The scheme is ground-breaking in a number of ways and we are confident that it will have the ‘wow factor’ once finished.”
