Component contract won for ‘major’ project

Walsall-based Chamberlin has won an order contract for its iron and steel casting foundry in Scunthorpe.

The order worth £800,000, is for components to be made by Russell Ductile Castings (RDC), Chamberlin’s heavy casting division, for a ‘major’ London based infrastructure project. The client has not been named.

Production of the components is expected to begin in February 2022 and the board says it expects RDC’s Q4 performance to benefit from the increase in revenue.

RDC produces low volume specialised castings ranging from under 30kg to 5,000kg. These are mainly used in industries such as steel production, railways and construction. It says its strategy is to create a one-stop-shop for customer experience by broadening its capability and the new contract will support the companies growth within the infrastructure, environmental and renewable energy markets.

Before Christmas, Chamberlin announced strong growth with RDC and Petrel (its precision engineering business) despite revenue dropping from £11m to £8m.

Chairman, Keith Butler-Wheelhouse, said: “I am delighted to report that the difficulties of the past 18 months are now largely behind us. The actions taken by the Company in the first half have stabilised the group and delivered a profit after tax for the first time in five years.

“Chamberlin is now well placed to deliver profitable growth in the second half, driven by a new strategic direction into expanding markets across all our businesses.”
