People: New partner at Pickerings; Pears gets juicy promotion

Pickerings' directors

Lucy Cooling has become a director of Tamworth-based law firm Pickerings Solicitors.

Born and bred in Tamworth, Cooling joined Pickerings in 2015 from Mills & Reeve, having begun her legal training as a private client lawyer in Birmingham at SGH Martineau. She has practised in private client wills, trust and probate work throughout her career.

Pickering qualified as a legal eecutive in 2004 and as a solicitor in 2006. She won Birmingham Law Society’s Legal Executive of the Year award in 2007.

She is a member of STEP, (The Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners), the leading worldwide association for practitioners dealing with family and succession planning and of SFE, (Solicitors for the Elderly), an organisation for lawyers who provide specialist legal advice for older and vulnerable people, their families and carers.

Pickering said: “I am thrilled to become a director of this thriving, regional business based from my home town and look forward to helping lead Pickerings to continued success. It is important to me to be part of an organisation that puts people first; both clients and employees.”

Scott Pears

Scott Pears has been promoted to operations director at Staffordshire firm Copper Alloys.

Pears joined Copper Alloys’ technical department as a graduate in 2007, following completion of his Physics degree from Loughborough University. Reporting to the technical director, he supported the growth of the department and the technologically demanding aspects of production.

He also has experience in financial and customer-facing functions.

Pears said: “Over the years, I’ve been able to develop a strong understanding of every aspect of Copper Alloys, from sales to operations.

“I take a lot of satisfaction from the ‘culture of excellence’. I enjoy putting processes in place and strategising so that everything we do is to the highest level achievable.

“In manufacturing I understand that it’s absolutely vital we drive ahead and innovate where possible, to progress the industry as a whole. My satisfaction comes from finding better ways to do things and implementing them, for example achieving lower cost, operating faster or more efficiently. The way we realise this is by looking inward and ensuring our people are satisfied in their roles and giving them opportunities to develop.”
