Frasers eyes bid for Wasps’ stadium as part of venture into West Midlands

Shirebrook-based Frasers Group could be set to make a bid for the home of stricken rugby union side Wasps.

The company is said to be in the mix to bid for the 32,609-capacity Coventry Building Society Arena (CBS), which has appointed administrators, according to reports in The Telegraph. FRP Advisory has been instructed to find a buyer for the stadium, which also counts Coventry City as tenants.

The moves comes just over a month after Frasers revealed plans to create a “world-class” global headquarters campus in Ansty, Warwickshire.

It remains unclear what the plans would mean for the retail giant’s current HQ in Shirebrook.

However, a spokesperson for Frasers told TheBusinessDesk.com that “no decisions have been made regarding the wider FG estate”, raising the possibility that the Derbyshire site could be under review.

Frasers faces stiff competition from exhibition venue giant NEC Group, which was rumoured last month to be considering a bid for the CBS Arena.

The NEC Group lodged a bid in early October, according to reports from Sky News.
