Contractor picked for Wolverhampton warehouse build
Construction company mac-group has been appointed to deliver a £12m speculative warehouse unit on the Wolverhampton / South Staffordshire borders.
The 109,534 sq ft unit at Vernon Park, an industrial development close to junction 1 of the M54, will include flexible ancillary offices, rainwater harvesting for water consumption, 12 loading bays, covered cycle storage for 38 bicycles, as well as 143 car parking spaces, EV charging points and landscaping.
The site is split into two levels and the steel frame structure will be off a six-metre-high reinforced concrete (RC) retaining wall.
South Staffordshire Council granted planning permission earlier this year for the development, which is earmarked for storage and distribution, and manufacturing. It is the last remaining plot for phase one of Vernon Park. Other occupiers are DHL, Mann Hummel and J Banks.
Ray O’Sullivan, of the mac-group, said: “We’re pleased to be starting work on this warehouse unit, which has sustainability at the centre of its design.
“Vernon Park is a strategically located business park, right next to the motorway network and this unit promises to be a high-quality building with features that modern businesses demand.”
mac-group was appointed on behalf of Staffordshire Pension Fund and work is to begin later this month, with an expected completion date of Q3 2023.
Virtus Consult has been appointed for project management and QS, while Rodgers Leask Limited is undertaking engineering work. The architect is UMC Architects.
