A Midlands construction firm has landed its first contract of the year, on a scheme which is set to create 100 jobs.

Warwick-based MCS Group will deliver a 42,000 sq ft industrial scheme at Holywell Business Park which is part of the Kineton Road Industrial Estate in Southam.

Warwickshire Property & Development Group (WPDG) was granted planning permission for its first construction project last month by Warwickshire County Council.

MCS will build nine units between 1,900 sq ft and 15,000 sq ft to suit a range of businesses.

WPDG was established by Warwickshire County Council in 2021 to spearhead the sustainable development of its available sites, commercial buildings and mineral rights.

Keir Edmonds, group managing director of MCS said: “We deliver projects right across the country and are very active in the M25 corridor, but we are very much rooted in Warwickshire so it is always rewarding to be chosen to deliver a project that will make a difference to the local economy.

“WPDG is working to help the county realise the potential of its assets which will in turn help create jobs which can only be good four our local area, and we are really excited to be delivering its first construction project.”

MCS has delivered several projects in Warwickshire in recent years including a new Volvo dealership and a £10m office refurbishment project, both on Tachbrook Park in Warwick.

The company is due to start on site next month with completion expected in the winter of 2023.

Councillor Peter Butlin, deputy leader of Warwickshire County Council and portfolio holder for finance and property said: “We went out to competitive tender for this contract and it is really great that a local firm with a national reputation emerged successful.

“Not only will the development create local jobs and bring more economic vitality to the area, but the awarding of the contract for a firm based locally, that employs local people is also very good news.”

Ian Cox, chair of WPDG added: “This development is designed to appeal to a range of businesses in terms of sectors and sizes, and will help the pipeline of growing and successful firms which is key to healthy economy.”

Kineton Road Industrial Estate is home to a range of local, national and international businesses include Al-Ko Kober, DYWIDAG and Alumet Systems.
