Global manufacturer invests in new facility

Global metal cutting firm Sandvik Coromant has launched its new manufacturing in Halesowen.

The company, which has been based at the site since 1958, has invested in a revamp of the space, which has included demolishing the previous building to create a new hub for manufacturing innovation and customer service.

“Our ties to the Midlands go back over 100 years,” said David Harborn, Sandvik Coromant sales director for the UK and Ireland.

“Sandvik Coromant has long been a flagship employer and a recognisable name for the region, and we want this to continue. We take our community involvement very seriously, and continue to be the sponsors of several community projects in Halesowen, Dudley and the wider Midlands region. Moreover, we have strong customers, strong partnerships and links to academia in the area.”

Michael Eneberg, vice president of global sales at Sandvik Coromant, said: “Plugging the skills gap in engineering is essential, and upskilling our customers is key to achieving this. In addition to hosting customers physically at our Centers, we can also provide digital live machining (DLM) sessions.

“These virtual sessions use technology to provide customers with an interactive experience of the Center, regardless of where they are in the world. Using multiple cameras inside the machines and within the demonstration Center, we can provide live two-way dialogue between customers and our global specialists.”

Sandvik Group achieved a turnover of more than £350m in the UK in 2022.
