Bio-tech company expands life sciences presence with office deal
Contract development and manufacturing organisation adthera bio has expanded its life sciences presence in Birmingham with a new lease agreement to take 4,262 sq ft office space within developer SevenCapital’s Lyndon House development on Hagley Road.
The company which specialises in high technology cell and gene therapy-focused development and manufacturing has agreed to take space on the 12th floor of the building on a five-year term.
The business, which already has an established presence in Edgbaston, will be relocating from Birmingham Research Park on the University of Birmingham Campus to Lyndon House to facilitate its continued expansion and commitment to research and development in the city’s booming life sciences sector.
This latest deal proves a further key leasing for SevenCapital within the life sciences sector, with Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science which acquired The Binding Site in October 2022, taking over 100,000 sq ft of floor space at its 105 Broad Street building at Five Ways. The space is currently undergoing a major fit out to include a lab facilities on the ground floor and basement level, as well as integral office space.
Colin Sims, CEO of adthera bio, said: “The move to Lyndon House marks an exciting milestone for adthera bio as we continue to drive our international product development and manufacturing for cutting edge cell and gene therapies forward and further enhance the city’s continually growing world class life sciences sector.
“Lyndon House provides us with the additional space to expand as we continue to drive forward lifesaving cell and gene therapy development worldwide. The buildings views appealed to us as a great working environment and, we can easily see the University of Birmingham from our new offices which is where we will continue to manufacture cell and gene therapies.”
Simon Dicken, senior director at SevenCapital, said: “adthera bio is a fantastic addition to Lyndon House and the surrounding area within Edgbaston. Perfectly placed on Hagley Road and within the parameters of the increasingly popular Edgbaston Village, the building is easily accessible from both inside and outside Birmingham city centre by car or via the new Metro line – making it an ideal location for growing businesses looking for additional floorspace.
“We are proud to be able to support the continued expansion of Birmingham’s world-class life sciences industry as it becomes increasingly vital and recognised on a global scale. We look forward welcoming adthera bio and discovering how we can help further businesses with their important spatial requirements.”
