City’s library to shut ahead of relocation

Stoke-on-Trent’s main library will shut for more than a month while books are moved to its new location.

City Central Library, currently based on Bethesda Street, will close its doors on Saturday 29 July, ahead of the move to the Two Smithfield Site.

Services will be available from a library van, which will be based at Smithfield every Wednesday from 2 August between 9:30am and 12:30pm.

From Monday 31 July digital support sessions will also be available every Monday and Thursday morning 9.30am-12.00pm in Hanley Market.

On Thursday afternoons from 2.00-4.30pm there will be one-to-one appointments available.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council leader Jane Ashworth said: “This is an exciting time for our library service, with the move of City Central Library and a more modern site at Two Smithfield.

“In the interim, we will still offer a number of library services via the Little Library Van on Smithfield on Wednesdays, plus digital support sessions from Hanley Market.

“Anyone who wishes to sign up to the Summer Reading Challenge after the closure will be able to do so from the Little Library Van, our five other library sites or at the Tales in the Park events we will be teaming with Stoke Reads on.

“We look forward to re-opening City Central Library at Two Smithfield in September.”
