Brewery invests £1m in new machinery

Freedom Brewery is investing more than £1m in a new canning line and autopack machine at its Staffordshire brewery site, resulting in a fivefold increase in capacity.

The brewery introduced its can range, featuring the Freedom Craft Lager in 2020. The range has witnessed growth, with over 3.7m cans sold in 2023 alone.

The new canning line will allow the brewery to produce up to 250 cans per minute. The investment also includes modifications to the brewery site, introducing a new warehouse and adjusting the production area layout.

This development follows a recent rebranding effort by Freedom Brewery as they anticipate the category to be valued at £500m by 2025.

Matthew Willson, managing director at Freedom Brewery, said: “After a period of strong growth for Freedom and the increased demand for properly brewed craft lager, it feels like the right time to be investing in our production capabilities. We’re now in prime position to meet the demand and we are ready to pursue new customers and listings with both the on and off-trade.”
