Green light for new Wolverhampton council homes

Wolverhampton City Council has confirmed that construction is scheduled to commence in the summer of 2024 for the development of 24 new council homes in Low Hill.

Planning permission was recently granted for a mix of detached and semi-detached houses, bungalows, and flats on the cleared site behind Old Fallings Crescent, previously occupied by the former Peach Tree adventure playground and disused garages.

BM3 Architects have designed the homes, with the majority meeting wheelchair standards and all featuring high energy efficiency, electric vehicle charging points, and solar panels.

The scheme includes 2-bedroom homes as well as 4 and 5-bedroom homes to accommodate larger families.

To enhance access to the development, two existing semi-detached council houses will be demolished, and the project will also provide 52 parking spaces.

Councillor Steve Evans, said: “This development helps address the local area’s housing needs by providing a variety of council homes that will enhance the surrounding neighbourhood and foster a vibrant and inclusive community. A lot of credit must go to our housing officers for working in consultation with existing residents to develop such a strong scheme. I very much look forward to seeing spades in the ground in the summer and these well-designed homes, near to open spaces and community facilities, welcoming tenants from as early as 2025.”

Upon the appointment of a contractor, the construction of the initial phase is expected to be completed within a year of commencement, with the entire project finished by autumn 2025.
