Green light for 136 apartments on former motorcycle retail site

Planning permission has been granted for a 136-apartment scheme in Deritend, Bordesley.

Gemini Property plans to demolish the former J & S Motorcycles site and develop a seven-storey building in one block across the full site, which incorporates the existing car park.

The proposed plans include 58 one-bedroom, 74 two-bedroom, and four three-bedroom apartments. The ground floor is designated for 5,200 sq ft of internal communal amenity space.

Meanwhile, around 9,200 sq ft of shared external amenity space will be developed within a courtyard located at the rear of the building. Certain units will feature private balconies, while others will have ground-floor private amenity space

In a planning meeting on Thursday morning (February 22), councillor Lee Marshall said: “Building on a brownfield site is something we want, however, I would like to see some of the housing labelled as ‘affordable’.”

The scheme was approved unanimously, without any changes.
