Former motorcycle retail site set to be redeveloped into 136 apartments

Planning permission is set to be granted for a 136 apartment scheme in Deritend, Bordesley.

Gemini Property plans to demolish the former J & S Motorcycles site and develop a seven storey building in one block across the full site, which incorporates the existing car park.

Plans propose 58 one-bedroom, 74 two-bedroom and four three-bedroom apartments, whilst the ground floor provides for 5,200 sq ft of internal communal amenity space.

Around 9,200 sq ft of shared external amenity space will be created within a courtyard to the rear of the building. Some units have private balconies and some ground floor private amenity space.

Birmingham City Council planners have recommended the scheme for approval, subject to a legal agreement that means that 10% of the development must be classed as ‘affordable’ with a proportionate mix of one, two and three-bedrooms. There is also a payment of up to £10k for the monitoring and administration of the legal agreement.

The council will meet to discuss the scheme on February 22.
