Husband and wife team acquire manufacturer as owners retire

A husband-and-wife team from Stourbridge, Cameron and Elizabeth Wakeman, have acquired Midland Wire Mesh, made possible through a joint funding package of £175,000 provided by BCRS Business Loans and UKSE.
Midland Wire Mesh, an industrial wire mesh manufacturer established in 1975 and located on Lodgefield Road in Halesowen, serves various sectors such as construction, gardening, drainage, and the pet industry.
The Wakemans decided to take over the business from the original owners, David and Debbie Walters, who were looking to retire.
With this acquisition, Midland Wire Mesh plans to create three new positions, expand their in-house services to include welding and invest in new machinery.
Cameron Wakeman brings over 14 years of sales, marketing, and management experience in the metal industry from his time at companies like Midtherm, Servosteel, and Intec Laser Services.
Elizabeth Wakeman, a phlebotomist at Guest Hospital NHS in Dudley, will manage the company’s finance and business marketing.
Cameron Wakeman said: “Myself and Elizabeth have always wanted to run our own business and when the opportunity came about, we were keen to make it happen. I have always worked in the metal industry in various roles from shop floor to operating
machinery to sales and management roles so I’m looking forward to applying my skills and knowledge to Midland Wire Mesh Ltd.
“We aim to grow the business over the next 12 months and focus on diversifying into new markets including racking, pet care, safety and architecture.”
BCRS Business Loans senior business development manager Lynn Wyke, said: “We are delighted to have been able to deliver the funding Cameron and Elizabeth needed to secure the purchase of Midland Wire Mesh Ltd. As a lender that delivers funding for social and economic impact, it is great news that the funding will generate new jobs and enable the company to innovate.”
