£81m Centenary Square development secures planning approval
Kier Property is set to develop its third building at the Arena Central scheme after Birmingham City Council planning officers approved plans.
Revised plans were lodged for the 5 Centenary Square scheme after its previous planning permission expired. The developer has now got the green light for 280,863 sq ft of Grade A office space opposite the Library and next to The University of Birmingham’s Exchange Building.
The ten-storey building will feature a top-floor terrace overlooking Centenary Square, alongside a basement with 12 car parking spaces and a cycle hub with 160 spaces and changing rooms.
It’s been approved subject to a section 106 agreement that involves a £2.2m financial contribution for active travel connections between public transport.
The revised plans by Make Architects have relocated the cycle hub to the lower ground floor, in order for the hub to be accessed from Bridge Street.
A retail unit has also been added on the lower ground floor off Bank Court, and a reconfiguration of the reception has been made to accommodate access to both the lower ground cycle facilities and the central bank of lifts facing onto Bank Court.
Documents say around 1,385 people could work at the site once complete.
