Plans unveiled to transform iconic Express & Star site

Four property professionals have lodged plans to transform Wolverhampton’s Express & Star building into a mixed-use development.

The 82,000 sq ft site will undergo a renovation to create ‘The Newspaper Building’ comprising 38 “premium” residential apartments, collaborative office spaces and social venues.

Features of The Newspaper Building include a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, co-working and private offices, a bar and restaurant, alongside leisure and event space.

The development team consists of four Wolverhampton natives, bringing together nearly 60 years of combined expertise in construction, property investment, architecture, and commercial real estate.

In documents submitted to the City of Wolverhampton Council, the team says: “The four of us behind this project have deep roots in Wolverhampton. We grew up here, studied here, and now, we’re here to give something back to the city that shaped us.”

The team is made up of: Ben Anslow (construction and development), Adib Zaki (property investment), Lee Mitchell (architecture) and Anil Kataria (commercial real estate).

Planning officers are expected to have determined the proposal by the end of January.
