Walsall Council acquires over 225,000 sq ft of land for housing project

Walsall Council has taken ownership of another site in Willenhall as part of its Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) plan.
The property at 112-114 Newhall Street is among the 226,042 sq ft of land being acquired to make way for new housing.
The CPO area stretches from Villiers Street to Moat Street, Newhall Street, Stafford Street, and Temple Bar.
It includes several derelict and unsafe sites that have been linked to antisocial behaviour in recent years.
Outline planning permission was granted on 16 July 2024 to demolish old structures and construct up to 54 apartments and 53 houses.
A locally listed building will be retained for residential use, alongside new roads, parking areas, and public open spaces.
Councillor Adrian Andrew, associate leader of Walsall Council said: “It’s great to see the plans for Willenhall progressing, and now that we’ve taken ownership of yet another site we are one step closer to bringing much-needed new housing forward for our residents. In May we expect to have completed the acquisition of all of the sites within our CPO boundary so we can start work with Keepmoat to deliver high-quality new homes. This is a huge step forward in delivering a great future for Willenhall while having an eye on our proud history.”
The full acquisition of sites within the CPO area is expected to be completed by May.
Once finalised, Walsall Council will work with developer Keepmoat to begin construction.
Funding for this initiative comes from the Government’s former Levelling Up Fund and the West Midlands Combined Authority, supporting the delivery of the Willenhall Framework Plan.
