Creditors meeting for Stratford tourism service

A CREDITORS meeting for South Warwickshire Tourism, the tourism information service for Stratford-upon-Avon and Leamington Spa, which ceased trading in March, has been called for the end of this month.

The board of South Warwickshire Tourism, which trades as Shakespeare Country, has appointed insolvency experts Poppleton & Appleby after Stratford District Council deferred a decision to issue a grant to the organisation forcing it to cease trading.

The decision saw the closure of the town centre-based tourist information offices in Stratford and Leamington Spa over Easter and they have stayed shut ever since.

Poppleton & Appleby, which has offices in Birmingham and Coventry, is expected to be appointed as liquidators at the meeting, which takes place at Stratford Manor Hotel at 11am on April 28.

Gavin Bates, of Poppleton & Appleby, said: “When liquidators are appointed they have to see what interest there is in the company and its assets.

“Obviously the brand of Shakespeare Country and its web presence may well be of interest to other parties and we will be working with the company over the next few weeks to seek the best way forward for all concerned.”
