St Modwen appoints new non-executive director

DEVELOPER St Modwen Properties has appointed experienced businessman David Garman as a non-executive director. The appointment is with immediate effect.

Mr Garman, 58, has a broad range of industrial experience, most recently as chief executive of logistics group TDG, serving from 1999 until its takeover in 2008.

Prior to taking up his role at TDG, he had spent 20 years at United Biscuits in a variety of management roles, and then six years from 1993-1999 at Associated British Foods (ABF), where he was a director and chief executive of its Allied Bakeries subsidiary.

He was appointed a non-executive director of Wolverhampton-based Carillion in 2004 and, since 2005, has been senior independent director. He is also a non-executive director of Phoenix IT Group.

In 2009, Mr Garman established The Oakwood Partnership, which brings together a small group of experienced executives with a track record in manufacturing, supply chain, operations management and M&A, to help client organisations enhance the value of their operations. He is also an associate of Duke Corporate Education and a Business Adviser for Enterprise Ireland.

Anthony Glossop, chairman of St Modwen Properties, said: “I am delighted that David has agreed to join us and am confident that his broad range of business and board experience will enable him to make a significant contribution to the board and the company.”
