Cricket stars join accountants to raise money for charity

THREE of the region’s best remember cricketing heroes joined forces with city professionals recently to help raise money for The Lord’s Taverners charity.
England cricket legends Dennis Amiss MBE, Gladstone Small and Dougie Brown came to Warwickshire recently to speak at the Annual Dinner of the Warwickshire Society of Chartered Accountants (WSCA).
The trio amused the 150-strong audience, which was comprised of firms such as HBO, Burgis & Bullock, Dafferns, Murphy Salisbury, SFB and Moffat & Co., with stories and anecdotes and took part in a Q&A session.
The dinner, which was sponsored by Wright Hassall and FA Simms & Co, celebrated the end of the year for WCSA’s President Clive Bawden, himself a keen cricketer.
“I’m delighted to have had such prominent speakers to our dinner, and to raise so much money for the Taverners,” said Mr Bawden.
“Their work giving young and disadvantaged children a sporting chance is something I feel passionate about given my own sporting past, so I’d like to thank all of those who came to the dinner and in particular our guest speakers for making it such a great night.”
Mr Amiss added: “It was our pleasure speaking at Clive’s dinner.
“I’m aware of the work the committee have done this year in encouraging young business talent at Coventry University, and so it great to not only use the dinner to celebrate that, but at the same time raise so much money for the Taverners, a cause I have close to my heart.”
