Cameron praises Jaguar Land Rover for growth opportunities

JAGUAR Land Rover has been praised by the Prime Minister for its efforts to spearhead new growth in the automotive and advanced manufacturing sector.

David Cameron, speaking on a visit to Birmingham, also said the company’s job creation schemes were an example to the rest of industry.

“What Jaguar Land Rover is doing here cannot be under-estimated. We have had the announcement of 1,000 new jobs and the effect this will have on the automotive supply chain is going to be considerable,” he said.

He said the expansion of the firm would help to secure new jobs and investment elsewhere and this would have a beneficial effect on the economy of the West Midlands.

The announcement coincided with the firm releasing new figures which showed a sales increase in excess of 30% for the second quarter of the year.

Company owner, Tata Motors, said the strong quarter had helped boost sales during the first six months of the year to 130,090 units, a growth of 13.8% on the corresponding period last year. The firm said the results reflected better product and market mix allied with strong growth in China and Russia.
