New category in 2012 property awards

ENTRIES to a regional property awards scheme are now open for projects across the West Midlands with a new category for 2012.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Awards is now in its 22nd year and entries can be submitted in building conservation, community benefit and regeneration categories.

A fourth category for design and innovation replaces the previous ‘sustainability’ award with green credentials now being judged in all submitted projects.

One of the four category winners will be chosen as the RICS West Midlands overall top project with all four going forward to the national awards next autumn.

Submissions can be made by surveyors, architects, developers and owners of buildings and projects can be large or small.

The Midland Arts Centre was named the 2011 top community project and overall winner for the West Midlands.

However, the Royal Society of Arts Academy, in Tipton, took the national ‘community benefit’ prize last month, despite being only highly commended in the regional awards. The deadline for entries is January 20.
