Rider Levett Bucknall scores hat trick of projects

PROPERTY and construction consultant Rider Levett Bucknall has been awarded a hat trick of projects in the West Midlands by developer Opus Land.
The company, which has an office in central Birmingham, has been appointed project manager, quantity surveyors, employer’s agent, CDM co-ordinator and party wall surveyors to the 10-acre Opus owned site at Omega Park, previously home to engineers GKN.
The brownfield site, near junction six of the M6, will be redeveloped into a mix of uses.
Planning permission is due to be submitted before the end of May with an expected start date in October this year.
The second scheme is a 40,000 sq ft unit pre-let to Veolia Environmental Services, at Kingswood Lakeside in Cannock.
Appointed as employer’s agent and quantity surveyor, Rider Levett Bucknall says the building will be BREEAM Excellent and work will start in July with an expected completion date of next April.
Finally, Rider Levett Bucknall will project manage Opus 40 and also act as employer’s agent, quantity surveyor and planning supervisor during feasibility, design and construction phases.
Opus is redeveloping the park in Warwick which comprises refurbishment of an existing 80,000 sq ft office and 300,000 sq ft of new build offices set in 35 acres of mature landscaping.
Managing partner in Birmingham Mark Weaver said: “There remains a lot of uncertainty about the pace of activity levels in the marketplace during 2010 but I believe that these appointments are a good indicator of the start of a slow recovery.
“Much of course will be dependent on the new Governments’ policy to reduce the budget deficit but we are most definitely seeing that projects are currently being re-vitalised in an attempt to benefit from current low tender prices.”
Rider Levett Bucknall has already been working with Opus Land for three years at Opus 40 including assisting in securing tenants and pursuing planning permission for new offices.
