The Belfry seeks new owners

ICONIC golf venue The Belfry is up for sale, reports suggest.

It is understood that the world famous hotel and golf course complex near Sutton Coldfield – which has played home to the Ryder Cup and numerous other major golf tournaments – is open to offers.

Reports suggest that because the complex’s Irish owner, the Quinn Group, has become embroiled in financial problems, bank lenders – the Bank of Ireland, Barclays and Certus – are seeking a buyer.

The Quinns bought the business in 2005 but Sean Quinn, who led the group, saw his empire collapse this year and filed for bankruptcy last month.
