Former post office to enjoy new lease of life

A HISTORIC building on sale for over two and a half years in Warwick town centre is set to undergo a revamp after being bought by a property developer.

Warwickshire businessman and developer Chris Swan, of Cobalt Developments, has purchased the Old Post Office in the town’s Old Square, and is planning to fully refurbish it.

The ground floor of the Victorian three-storey building has been empty for around 15 years since the Post Office moved to new premises but Mr Swan is hoping to attract a wide range of occupiers.

He said: “Although it is early days, the response has been encouraging. The Old Post Office is a landmark building in a very good location and it lends itself perfectly to the sort of development we have in mind.

“There is a strong occupational market in Warwick and we believe the space will appeal to a wide variety of users.”

Warwickshire commercial property agents Shortland Horne negotiated the purchase of the property on behalf of Cobalt Developments and the firm will now market the new scheme.

Shortland Horne’s investment specialist Jonathan Moore added: “As with any property, location is key and there are few better located properties in Warwick town centre, and none that offer such fantastic space.

“Recent lettings to Costa and The Original Factory Shop in the former Woolworths unit have shown that Warwick is still a very desirable location for occupiers.

“The refurbishment of the Old Post Office will be undertaken to a high standard and I am excited about seeing this stunning building returned to its former glory.”

Part of the first floor of the building is currently let to the Chiropractic Network and the ground floor is 2,848 sq ft.
