BMW’s Hams Hall engine plant hits new production record

BMW’s Ham’s Hall engine plant has hit an all-new production record, manufacturing more than 430,000 engines in 2011.  During its 10-year history over 2.8m engines have been built at the plant.

The production record follows BMW Group’s announcement of record results for 2011.  Worldwide sales grew by 14.2%, strengthening the company’s position in the market.

During the last 12 months, production of a new engine derivative has commenced at the Hams Hall plant, built for the recently launched BMW 1 and 3 Series vehicles. The plant continues to produce engines for the BMW X1 and manufactures all of the petrol engines for MINI.

Nick Spencer, plant director said: “2011 was our best year ever. Not only did we see increased production levels, we were also able to confirm that a new, highly flexible production system will be installed at our site enabling us to produce future generation engines. This has reinforced the long-term future of the plant and secured jobs at Hams Hall.”

The factory, which employs 800 people, supplies engines to group plants around the world.

“Everybody working at the Hams Hall plant is proud to know we continue to be an important and valuable contributor to the BMW Group,” added Mr Spencer.
