Masters attracts close to 50 entries

ALL the entries are now in for TheBusinessDesk.com’s inaugural Midlands Business Masters Awards.

A late surge before last night’s final deadline meant close on 50 entries had been received across the six categories.

TheBusinessDesk.com’s Midlands editor Andy Coyne said he is delighted by the response. “Given that this is the first time these awards have been held in this region I’m extremely pleased with both the quality and quantity of the entries,” he said.

“The judging panel is going to have its work cut out choosing short lists of three in the various categories as there are loads of good companies to choose from with compelling stories to tell.”

The categories they will be judging on are Manufacturer, Exporter, Innovator, Ambassador, Pride and Newcomer.

The judging session will be held at the end of next week at Birmingham Science Park Aston and then the short lists will be published on TheBusinessDesk.com’s daily bulletin and website so that the winners can be chosen by the readers.

The panel of six judges consists of Wade Lyn, the founder and managing director of Birmingham-based Cleone Foods, Metalrax finance director Caroline Green, Fiona Toye, chief executive of Toye, Kenning & Spencer, Birmingham Science Park Aston CEO Dr David Hardman, Richard Butler – the regional director for the CBI in the West Midlands – and Doug Mahoney, UK Trade & Investment’s international trade director for the West Midlands.

Sponsors of the awards include Clearwater Corporate Finance, Baker Tilly, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Higgs & Sons and Harvey Nichols.

The awards ceremony will be held on the lunchtime of Thursday May 10 at the Town Hall in Birmingham. Tickets for the event are selling fast but can still be bought via this link. They are priced at £125 a ticket and are sold in pairs.
