Skills organisation expands in Walsall

SKILLS organisation Semta has expanded its network of training providers by linking up with an organisation in Walsall.

Semta, which specialises in the science, engineering and manufacturing sectors, has added PP Business Improvement to its ranks.

PP Business Improvement will work with Semta to help deliver training to the 13,770 engineering and manufacturing businesses established in the West Midlands.

Semta research has predicted there will be a need for an additional 10,000 technically skilled recruits in the region by 2016. The new partnership aims to meet the need by providing bespoke training programmes.

Susan Evans, Business Development Director at Semta, said: “Semta is one of the largest sector skills councils, supporting 130,000 companies across the UK. As a result, we understand what employers in our sectors need to help them thrive.”

Established in 2000, PP Business Improvement delivers business improvement programmes for businesses in the automotive, aerospace and electronics sectors. Its focus is on overcoming barriers to productivity and profitability.

David Fox, chairman of PP Business Improvement, said: “Becoming a Semta Recognised Training Provider cements our long-standing relationship, helping us fine tune our client offer using Semta insights and mechanisms to help the companies we work with get the best result from their training investments.”

As a Semta RTP, PP Business Improvement will have access to support from a Semta business partner as well as the latest updates on funding, policy, national occupational standards, frameworks, qualifications and other developments.
