Redditch move set to pay dividends for Steatite owner

ELECTRONICS group Solid State, which owns Redditch-based rugged systems supplier Steatite, has said it remains optimistic for the second half despite the current climate.
The AIM-listed firm supplies industrial/ruggedised computers, specialist electronic components and battery power solutions to the electronics market.
Its equipment is used in many of the world’s harshest environments. Markets include oil and gas production, medical, construction, security, military and field maintenance. The group also acts as both a distributor to OEMs and bespoke manufacturer of specialist units to clients with complex requirements.
In a statement ahead of today’s annual general meeting, chairman Gordon Comben said: “Solid State has made a confident start to the current financial year. Our niche sectors have shown good resilience supported by the global demand for our products.
“The relocation of Solid State Supplies from Paddock Wood to new purpose built facilities in Redditch has been completed without disruption. This timely move offers greater internal efficiency, will allow the development of added value services in-house (such as taping and reeling and device programming) and gives Solid State an excellent platform for further growth of its specialist electronic components division.
“While the board is mindful of the challenging economic conditions it remains optimistic over the prospects for the company and looks forward to updating the market in due course.”
Solid State employs over 100 staff across four sites and operates through two main divisions: Solid State Supplies and Steatite. Solid State was established in 1971 and admitted to AIM in June 1996.
